Duane N. Petersen

Great Falls resident and Vietnam War veteran Duane N. Petersen, 62, died of natural causes at his home on Feb. 27, 2004. He will be interred at Fort Harrison in Helena. Duane was born Oct. 23, 1941, in Cut Bank, second youngest child of Emil L. and Helen (Haines) Petersen.

He attended school in Cut Bank until the family moved to Livingston in 1954, where he completed high school. Duane served on a Navy destroyer for four years in support of Vietnam operations. He then graduated from the University of Montana with a degree in Business Administration. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in September 2003.

Duane married Linda in San Diego in 1965 and they divorced in 1993. Survivors include his son, Roger C. (Angel) Petersen; daughter Molly A. Petersen (Michael Sangray); grandsons Travis and Joshua Petersen, all of Helena; brother Don (Terry) Petersen of Whitefish; sisters Joann (Hank) Neidhardt, Cut Bank, Karen St. George, Helena, Lois Smith and Linda (Joe) Summers, Great Falls; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother Kenny. He will be missed.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested in Duane's name to the Great Falls Public Library or VFW Post 10.
